Students were asked to illustrate based on the following prompt:
“What comes to mind when you think of your “Happy Place?” Is it a corner of your house where you love to read? Is it your favorite theme park you cannot wait to re-visit? Is it your Grandma’s house? Show us!”

Entry Description:
To me a sunset is the most beautiful thing in the world and a sunset on a beach is double the wonder. Sunsets on beach just make me feel so at peace and calm, which I think we all need. The reference for this painting actually came from a local beach.

Entry Description:
The Alisal Guest Ranch is my happy place. Located in sunny Solvang, CA, the Alisal has been the location of 12 years of family memories for me. There is so much to do, from riding horses to relaxing by the lake. It is my happy place in every meaning of the phrase. To be in such a beautiful place surrounded by the ones I love. The ranch was established as a dude ranch in 1946, so I was inspired by sewing patterns from that year to design an illustration that captures the layout of the place as well as some of the exciting activities that make the Alisal feel like my second home.
